This reflexology mat is designed to help you massage your feet, helping relieve any stresses, aches and pains.
The mat has a number of precisely placed coloured plastic “stones” that are designed to reach the acupressure points in your feet.
Acupressure is much like acupuncture but without the needles. It uses the same acupoints. Whereas acupuncture needs to be very precise (which is why you don’t do it yourself), acupressure gets the same kind of results but can be practised by anyone. Whether you use it while you’re standing up or sitting down, so long as you can rest your feet on this mat, you can do it!
The acupressure points are printed on the mat so you can trace each one through to the appropriate stone if you want to but in practice – unless your feet are really small – you’ll be using all the acupoints at once.
You can use the mat to stimulate your blood circulation – useful if your feet get cold at times.
At first glance, it might look slightly odd. The mixture of plastic stones and Chinese as well as English text for the acupoints sees to that. But since you probably won’t be staring at the mat itself whilst you massage your feet on it, that’s not really an issue.
When you first get the mat, it’s folded up but when you’ve laid it out for a while, the fold marks will vanish. It also means that the mat can fit into a drawer when you’re not using it. Unfolded, it measures approximately 35cm square (about 13.7 inches)
Our feet are complex things: 26 bones, 19 muscles, 33 joints, more than 50 ligaments, over half a million blood vessels and more than 40,000 sweat glands. They’re also the place that the main energy channels in your body terminate which is why foot massage works so well.
We’d recommend that you drink some water before using the mat. That’s actually good advice anyway as it helps keep you hydrated but it’s not essential to do that.
