Description

The Iraq Commitment Medal (Military Version) and accompanying award certificate (with a blue-color background) has been officially authorized by the Iraq Government for issue to all Coalition Forces who served either In Iraq or in theater during Gulf War II (GWII) (2003-2011).  There is also an Iraq Commitment Medal (Civilian Version) and award certificate (with a yellow-color background) authorized for all civilians workers under the same qualifying criteria.
Recipients are eligible to receive both versions of the Iraq Commitment Medal if they meet the qualifying criteria.
There will be additional devices available soon that can be attached to the ribbon to indicate multiple awards of both versions of the medal.
The photo of the Iraq Commitment Medal award certificates does not show the added security features.  These security features includes a gold foil star that is embossed or raised with an official seal.  Also all award certificates are issued with consecutive serial numbers.  The recipient’s name can be added for free.
There will be other types of Iraq campaign, service and specialty medals issued by the Iraq Government that will be authorized soon under the same qualifying criteria.

Write to your appropriate military service using the above DOD reg. Take your “OFFICIAL” IRAQ COMMITMENT MEDAL and “OFFICIAL” AWARD CERTIFICATE issued from the Iraq Government and apply for an individual award to retain and wear on the uniform (just like I did back in 1975 and 1983 respectively) and cite them as awarded. Receipt of the award is when you got your stuff, there was no ceremony, you had a token acceptance of the medal and award certificate which is allowed. Then wait and see if DOD will accept your application or not. Use the letter issued by the Iraq Defense Minister back in 2011 if you need to just in case. There are also numerous copies of it on FB.
